 We've Moved!! (Sort of...)
« Result #1 on Mar 11, 2008, 9:00pm »

Hello one and all, prospective newcomers and nostalgic lurkers.

Clearly, the days of role-playing on the boards of the Equestrian Society are long over. There isn't much going on around here nowadays. However, a few of us old members got together recently and, given the fact that we still enjoyed shooting the breeze about all the good times our characters had (and all the crazy times they would have had if we'd just had the opportunity to keep playing), decided that something needed to be done...

I give you that something.

We've set up what amounts to a free-writing community on livejournal, set in the ES universe. All of the favorite ES characters are at your disposal (as well as some fresh faces), and if you want in, you're more than welcome to bring your own charries in. Old players and new players are more than welcome. Just check it out if you're interested. :-)

Cole smiled softly as he watched Secret trot after him into the water. Cole looked at the bay again and shook his head. He could remember a time back when he had first gotten Secret that the stallion hadn't really liked the water. There had been a pond, exactly like this one, close to Cole's house, and he and his brother were always going there to swim. Secret had always been reluctant to go in, and it had taken much coaxing on Cole's part to get him to go in on his own, without being forced. After the first few times, Secret had finally began going into the water on his own without Cole having to coax him.

Cole smiled slightly and then frowned as he felt the cold water moving up his body and then he had to stop himself from saying something about how cold it was, because he didn't want to sound like a baby. He smirked slightly as he turned back to look at Secret and then sent some water over his way and got him wet. Secret looked at his teenage friend indignantly before pawing the water and getting the black haired kid soaking wet. Cole looked over at Avery as he heard the girl's voice and smirked slightly before saying, "Yah, loads of fun, even Secret is having fun. What about you?"

Avery couldn’t help but be a little surprised when Cole so readily went for the idea of a swim. A broad smile covered her face as she watched him fix the horse’s bridle so he to could go for a swim. Her smile turned into a laugh as she watched boy and horse head for the water. She couldn’t believe Cole was actually going to get in wearing jeans; he’d be soaked for hours. Then suddenly she looked down at her own attire. Her beige breeches were an expensive pair and jumping into a murky pond while wearing them just did not seem to be a good idea.

The blonde bit down on her lower lip as she pondered for a minute. As she reached a decision she slipped off her boots and her riding pants and tugged her polo over her head. Clad in a pair of black boy shorts underwear and a white cami she ran laughing into the pond. “Ahh its cold!” she exclaimed as the water hit her bare skin. But slowly as she walked into the water up to her waste, all the sand and dirt at the bottom sliding between her toes, it became cool and relaxing. She looked over at Cole and secret and smiled, "Having fun?"

Dean smiled softly as he and Barney cleared the last fence. He smirked and gently patted Barney's neck, letting the gelding know how much he appriciated the bay taking care of him over those jumps. He murmurred "Good boy. See, that's the way it's done.." He looked at Kayleigh as he heard what she said. He smiled softly to her and quickly thought back to the ride. He had a habit of doing that when he was riding. He always thought back to his ride whenever people gave him suggestions. He nodded and then said, "Sounds good to me..." With that, he let his reins drop to the buckle as he made Barney sit in the middle and watched as Kayleigh took on the jumps.

Dean watched the instructor take the line of jumps, but instead of watching the way Kyle jumped this time, he watched the way Kayleigh rode. He knew that by watching a professional like Kayleigh he could gain alot of knowledge on the right way to ride. He continued to watch and once they were done he couldn't help but smile. Both the rider and the horse had looked great going over the jumps. He smirked slightly and called out to Kayleigh, "You guys looked great going over that set of jumps.."

He collected up his reins and took a deep breath before he put Barney into a trot and did a circle, pushing the bay into a canter halfway through the circle. He then took the three jumps again, making sure to give Barney more leg. Then on the diagnol he went deeper into the corner and found that he did come out straighter to the jump. He smiled softly as they cleared the last jump and then he stopped the bay and looked at Kayleigh, wondering what she would say.

"Nice, add a little more leg going over the line and ride a little deeper into the corner coming off the diagonal. It'll set you up straighter on your approach for the first of the line." said Kayleigh, "After I go I want you to take the same three fences again and then maybe we'll add more"

With Dean's nod of conformation Kayleigh squeezed the black gelding into a floaty forward trot and made her circle asking for the canter halfway through. She aimed the gelding for the vertical and Kyle took it with enthusiasm and the pair headed for the line.

Kayleigh shortened her reins a fraction of an inch and rode him deep into the corner. She felt him drifting and corrected him with her legs. They cleared the first fence easily and took a long spot to the second fence. But she was grateful for the lack of fireworks and rode over to where Dean was and gave him the go ahead.

Cole smirked slightly as the wind continued to blow through his hair. He laughed to himself and almost let go of the reins, but decided against it. Although Secret would probably continue to go straight, Cole didn't want to chance it. Secret was used to galloping anyway, and Cole could tell that the stallion liked it. He hadn't been out for a good gallop in a while, mostly it had been arena work. Cole felt somewhat bad about that. He knew that although Seret enjoyed their arena work, he also needed to have a little fun, just like go did. Cole finally let his mind go blank and just listened to the pounding of the bay Quarter Horse's hooves on the grass.

Cole then heard someone talking to him, and barely registered what Avery had said, but noticed what she had been talking about. With the slightest touch on the reins, he steered Secret towards the gap and then slowed him down as they entered the trail. Secret walked excitedly, pumped from his gallop, but still listening to Cole perfectly. He glanced around and they suddenly came to a pond. Cole couldn't help but smile as he looked at it. He had to admit, it was getting out out, especially since he was wearing jeans.

He quickly hopped off Secret's back and looked around while Secret stood there. He smirked slightly and then watched as Avery got down. He pulled the bareback bad off and then quickly unbridled Secret, took the reins and the bit off, and put it back on as a halter type of thing. Secret deserved a break and Cole wanted him to be able to come swimming with them, or munch grass. He smirked slightly at Secret and then gently gave him a pat and then said, "Come on boy!" before taking off towards the pond, the bay looking at him for a moment before following his owner at a trot.

“That’s good.” She responded with a laugh. Avery enjoyed the canter best bareback, when she was in a saddle it was great but when nothing separated her and her horse during that smooth rocking horse rhythm it was unsurpassable. It was just something that gave you a feeling that couldn’t be beat. It gave her the impression of flying, of being free. As Cole brought his horse down to a halt and looked around Avery waited expectantly, already tightening her hold around his waste. She could guess what was coming. The stallion picked up the gallop perfectly and the blonde laughed as the wind tore through her curls as they blew out behind her.

As the trees surrounding the field and the grasses below Secret’s pounding hooves seemed to blend together Avery recognized one gap on the far edge. She’d found it on a trail expedition with Fancy a few weeks ago and had been waiting for a warmer day. She leaned forward so that Cole would be able to hear her. “See that break in the trees over there?” she asked not waiting for a response. “Go through it.” She said hoping that he would.

If he did he’d find a small pond glistening in the sunlight. Avery enjoyed swimming and after their high-speed bareback ride in the blazing sun she was getting warm. Although eh barely knew this boy she liked him. He was nice and she had a feeling he wouldn’t mind going for a swim.

Dean smiled softly once again, glad that they had completed the jump. He had expected to do well, but it was a whole different thing when you actually did. He knew he probably hadn't looked his best, but hey, what did you expect? He had been out of commission for the past couple of weeks, with getting stuff ready to come, and then Rio turned up lame the day before their last show of the season. Dean couldn't honestly say that he had been dissappointed. He had thought it was better that way, then they wouldn't put the stress on his legs only a few days before shipping him to a new farm. Rio had seemed a little antsy because of not going to the show, but Dean had worked with him to get him over it, and they had been happy.

Dean smiled at Kayleigh as he heard her praise. He knew that he must have looked really decent, to get a compliment. He nodded slowly and said, "Thanks, he felt great going over that jump, like it was nothing at all..." Although Dean know that it always took effort to go over a jump, no matter how high it was, Barney had made it seem like there had been nothing to it. He nodded as he heard the instructions. He watched intently Kayleigh took the black warmblood gelding over the jump. Dean had to admit, the gelding did have nice form, but he guessed some of that was in part because of the person who was on his back, but Kyle did seem to have some natural talent.

He noticed Kayleigh signaling to him, and quickly collected his reins and nudged Barney into a canter. He made a circle again, giving himself and Barney a chance to get working like a team and get themselves collected. He then took the veritcal again and they soared over it with no hesitation. Then they moved onto the outside line. Barney hesitated once or twice, and in the end they took down a total of two poles, which Dean thought wasn't to mad for their first time.

She kept her eye trained on the pair and watched them go. In her mind she anazlyzed every nuance of their ride. She saw a few things form wise that could be fixed but overall nothing bad, and the circle before the fence had been a plus in her books.

"Good job with him, smart thinking with the circle before hand, it really got him to listen to you. He gave you quite the effort over that fence and can go plenty higher so you'll add the outside line in addition to the verticle for your next go around. Let me get this brute over the vertical first and then you can head out again" said Kayleigh patting her own mounts neck affectionatly as she spoke.

She sent her own mount off into a smart trot and then circled, much like she would to begin an over fences round, picking up the canter halfway through.

As soon as he spied the fence Jyle's ears perked forward and he moved to pick up the pace. Kayleigh adjusted him slightly so they'd meet the distance, they soared over it neatly. Kayleigh praised the gelding as she brought him back to a walk and then she signnaled to Dean to once again go ahead.

Dean once again found himself watching the black warmblood as they switched directions and cantered. He would glance over at the pair every so often, and smiled softly when he realized that Kyle seemed to be behaving himself pretty well going this direction. Dean figured that one of two things had caused Kyle to change his attitude. Either he liked this direction better than the previous one, or he had figured out that he was not going to win the battle agianst Kayleigh. Dean finally shrugged and just guessed that it was probably was a combonation of the two.

They finally broke down to a trot and then a walk and then he halted Barney on the railing and loosened his reins. The bay extended his neck and then afer a moment Dean nudged him into a walk and Barney strode off easily with the loose reins. He smiled to himself and quietly watch and Kayleigh worked diligently to get the fences up. He looked them over and smiled softly when he realized there wasn't any more than 2' 3''. He was kind of glad for that, seeing as how he hadn't jumped any higher than that in a while. He hadn't done higher than that since the last time he had shown his friend's jumping Thoroughbred. He and Rio didn't jump that high either. They did once in a while, jumped higher than 2'3'' that is.

He listened intently to Kayleigh and nodded slowly. Barney didn't seem like a green horse, but Dean knew that Kayleigh was only giving him help. He looked at the vertical that Kayleigh wanted him to try. It wasn't that big. He urged Barney into a canter and then did a circle before heading towards the jump. He smiled as they got closer. He felt the bay hesitate slightly, but a little leg pressure from Dean got him to keep going and they cleared the jump with inches to spare.
