 Ryan Martens - Amateur Competitor
« Thread Started on Jun 1, 2007, 7:37pm »

Unfortunately, this little bugger's player has left our ranks, and he is looking to be picked up by someone else. She rolled into Barmarton Ranch in February, and would know most of the people there by now.

Full Name: Ryan Andrew Martens

Nicknames: Ryan

Birthday and Age: March 17, 1986-Making him 20

Birthplace: Oak Creek, Colorado

Family: Leslie(mother), Ray(father), Alex(younger brother)

Physical Appearance: Ryan is about 5'7 with blond hair and blue eyes. One large scar runs from his left knee down to his ankle and there is another small scar just above his right eye. Ryan is fairly skinny and his leg muscles are rather small. Yet he isn't lanky but he isn't exactly heavy set either his build is somewhere in the middle. From being outside most of the time his skin is slightly tan but he gives off a pale and almost sickly appearance. Since for some reason he is susceptible to getting sick very easily. Most of the time there is a lost or lonely look in his eyes, but still if approached he will never give you more then one useful sentence most of the time if asked about his feelings. The only time that he looks happy is when he is excited or when he can be spending time alone with horses.

History:
Ryan was born and raised in Colorado. When he was just four years old he was riding around on his very first pony. Most of the time he rode english but he also knew a little about riding western. A few years later he was competing in local shows with and old show jumper who didn't seem to mind Ryan's inexperience. As he got older he became more serious about riding and saved up enough money to buy his very own horse. Even though the horse was a rangy looking bay Ryan still loved the horse and they competed for many years. Still every once in a while he would borrow a lesson horse and go off riding with a western saddle.

He ran track when he was in high school and ended up being really good at it too. Then, two years ago he fell off a horse that he was exercise riding and was run over by it. His leg was broken along with several other bones and they ended up having to put pins into his left leg. After he came home he fell into a depressed state and turned away from people and spent a great time just being alone. Although it has been two years after his accident his leg still bothers him from time to time. Ryan has always been shy and quiet but that accident made him even more silent.

After he he was all healed up his dad encouraged him to go into the horse grooming business. Since Ryan refused to take exercise riding racehorses up again, he agreed since he still wanted to be around the powerful animals. He was hired by an owner and worked for him for a great deal of time. Then the owner fell upon hard times and was forced to sell out. After this happened Ryan moved from track to track trying to find work and doing virtually anything that he possibly could handle.

There was only one thing about racehorses that he is afraid of, watching the morning workouts. Every time that he sees one he would either get the memory of his accident back into his head or he was jumpy until the horse got off the track. This caused him to be somewhat of a wanderer and it might have been the reason why he only gets hired by an owner only for the season or meets at the track. He mainly just did his job and never had a close relationship with anybody or anything. Sometimes when he would have to groom at a farm he would pony the younger horses around, this made him glad that he never stopped riding western when he was younger. Yet some part of him wished that he could stay on with an owner longer so that he could get to know the horses better.

After grooming horses for two years he decided that he needed to find a permanent job that he could count on. All of the constant moving around, working from dawn until dusk and sometimes longer was getting to him. It seemed that he was getting sicker more often and it took longer for it to go away. Since most days he still had to go to work and be out in bad weather since the people whom he worked for did not hire a lot of people. This is why he decided to move here and take up riding western once again.

Personality: Ryan is really shy and isn't a very big talker. In fact he is so shy that some people think he doesn't talk. Caring for people and horses had always come naturally to him, and when something gets hurt he hates it . Sometimes he doesn't show it but inside he is bothered even if it is just avoiding certain situations. He does have a tendency to keep his feelings to himself, even when he is around people which are very close to him. When pressed about his past the scared little boy figure comes out of him and he desperately tries to change the subject. Since he is slightly afraid that if he tells somebody too much about himself that they will pity him. When he is around somebody who he doesn't know he tends to slink off to a safe place. Whether that place may be a trusted horses stall or just outside.

Financial Situation: Well, he just got out of the racehorse grooming business and the only reason why he has horses is because of his parents. For about a year they were being leased out to other people. Their leases had just ended and as soon as his parents heard that he was going to take up riding again they gave them back to him. Even though he offered to pay for them they refused. So, right now he is on a very tight budget.

Riding Style & Approximate Level: Well, he began riding at age four and was show jumping. Yet he sometimes rode western. Now that he's back to riding again he's leaning toward going back to competing in Western Pleasure.

Game Situation: Well, right now he's attempting to secure a boarding spot at Barmarton Ranch after spending some time at his parents home. It was a nice break but a few days ago he realized that it was time to go. He hopes that things will be much better then the past year or so has been. Which it undoubtedly will be. Although he does feel a little odd about owning horses again, he's happy with it. Horses are a lot easier to talk to then people, or at least that's what he think. He already has secured a small apartment a few miles away from the stables. He is rather quiet but is open to any type of role play. But beware, he tends to be rather quiet unless something right away tell him that he can trust you.
